I don’t know about you, but I like ranch with just about anything—veggies, salad, pizza, burgers, fries, nachos, chicken wings, tacos, hot dogs, breadsticks, steak, chips, eggs…the list goes on. It’s a wonderfully adaptable dressing.
My dad used to make it for my sister and me when we would visit in the summer as kids. Since then, I could never eat the bottled stuff like Hidden Valley, Kraft, Wish Bone, etc.
Once you’ve tried homemade ranch it’s nearly impossible to go back. That’s why I absolutely hate it when I’m eating at a nice burger joint, pizza shop, or bistro and find out that they use bottled ranch. What a waste! The taste difference is unbelievable. It’s not at all hard to tell…and it’s quite disappointing.
So, since I started making my own Homemade Mayonnaise, I figured that I should be making my own ranch dressing as well. Much like the mayo, I came to find that there is a multitude of recipes out there and just about every single one of them was different. Instead of spending hours preparing each recipe to discover which one I liked, I merely picked a handful of ingredients from several posts that I thought were most promising to test.
And, after a few batches, I whittled down the options to create this version of homemade ranch dressing.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Dry Ranch Mix
- Dried dill
- Dried parsley
- Dried chives
- Onion powder
- Granulated garlic
- Powdered buttermilk
- Salt and pepper
Everything else to make dressing
- Sour cream
First, combine all of the dry ingredients…
Note: You can make a big batch of dry mix and store what you don’t use in a zip-lock bag or airtight container for later use. That way, the next time you want to make ranch, you have already cut out a step!
Next, add the mayonnaise and sour cream. Mix thoroughly.
Then, to finish, add milk until you reach your desired consistency.
This recipe might be another drop in the bucket, but I think it’s pretty straightforward and (more importantly) delicious. I can now make homemade ranch from scratch whenever I want!
Until next time, take care.
