That Guy In The Apron is here to create a space where home cooking comes to life.
There are many dishes I’ve made for people in the past that have received the A+ stamp of tasty approval. I’m sure the same can be said for many of you. If you’re anything like me, your inspiration comes from the satisfaction of others–that silence created when everyone has stopped talking because they are entranced by their food. It is perhaps one of my favorite moments as a home cook.
After years of developing my passion for cooking, I’m finally ready to share it with the world.
Trust me, it took a long time for me to get to where I am today. I have to give credit to those friends and roommates who put up with the crazy experimentations in my beginner stage years ago. I thank them because if it wasn’t for all of the thumbs-up, thumbs-down, or so-so responses, I may have never learned from my mistakes. Criticism is one of the best things to receive when it comes to food. Good or bad, there is always room for improvement.
For those that know me have accepted the fact that I make most stuff up on the fly or put something together in my head while I’m at the grocery store buying whatever is on sale.
These are not fancy dishes mind you. In reality, they’re not meant to be. Anyone can make them.
Some of my favorite meals were created with random items left over in the fridge. You know how that goes. The important thing is, the first bite puts a smile on your face.
I will do my best to illustrate and explain what it is that I’m trying to accomplish, but I would hope that you will eventually learn to use your own discretion for the ingredients and proportions used in your own version of the dish. I encourage you to trust your palate.
You will be able to see everything that I’m using but if you don’t agree with one of the ingredients, don’t use it. I’m not here to tell you exactly what is and what should be. Everything has an interpretation. This is mine. Yours is yours.
Be creative. Never stop questioning. Make it your own.
Anyway, moving along.
The overall intention of this blog is to build it up to be interactive. Eventually, I will want you to share your own tips and tricks around the kitchen. I plan to include everyone who wants to contribute by having a top pick of the month, whereby one of you will be chosen as a featured “guest chef” on the blog. Those who didn’t make it one month will have a chance to post elsewhere, and are invited to enter for the next month. I will have more details once I hash out the idea a little further.
My goal is to also get a Facebook page and YouTube page for That Guy In The Apron, which will only make the interactive aspect that much more accessible.
In conclusion, this blog is not just intended for those who like to cook at home but also for anyone and everyone who loves food as much as I do. This is to be a shared experience. One day we will all be able to look back on this post and think about how great of a community we have built. How something that started out as nothing has become everything we hoped it would ever be.
So please, join me on this adventure. Let’s have fun with this!
